Do I need to see a dentist immediately if I chip my tooth?

Main Post:

So I think I chipped two of my teeth today (they sort of bumped into each other while chewing) but it’s barely noticeable and it didn’t bleed or hurt or anything. I’m currently abroad and my parents aren’t answering due to time zones + I would rather not pay for a dentist here, as I have a dental care plan at home. So can I wait until December to see my regular dentist??

Broke a tooth on Sunday eve, emergency dentist appointment Monday morning through 111, crown placed Tuesday morning by my own dentist.

Main Post:

In London of all places.

Top Comment: 111 is brilliant for emergency dentistry, you just have to call them early and you are likely to be seen same day by a dentist that accepts patients through that service. They can't guarantee to fix the problem there and then but will do their best to get you out of pain, advise and offer some treatments sooner if you can pay private if available (for example a difficult root canal rather than losing the tooth)

[Serious] Dentists of reddit, what's the biggest mistake or misunderstanding people make when it comes to dental hygiene?

Top Comment: It's not the amount of sugar consumption that's a problem, it's the frequency. If you chug a 2L bottle of coke in under a minute...I mean it's not great but your teeth are exposed to the sugar and acid for under a minute. Compare that to sippin on a giant cup of soda throughout the morning at the office. That's a near-constant exposure of sugar and acid to your teeth all throughout the morning. Compare it to ripping a Band-Aid off quickly versus slowly taking it off through a four hour period. Edit: On black coffee. Sugar is bad because bacteria eat the sugar and convert it into lactic acid, which erodes your teeth and creates cavities. Black coffee skips the sugar part and jumps straight to the acidic part. Frequently consuming black coffee all day long will cause problems as well. Edit 2: on sugarfree gum. Check the ingredients for xylitol, which is amazing for your oral health. It's basically the world's most tantalizing mouse trap for the bacteria in your mouth. But it's poisonous to cats and dogs.

Dentist in Philly for a Chipped Front Tooth

Main Post:

Hello,

I managed to chip my front tooth by falling off my bike and it's about 1/3 of my front tooth came off.

Is there any places that can fixed a chipped tooth for around or under $2k in the city?

I've lived here for years and still kept the same dentist from 7+ years ago. They've been really expensive and I've been meaning to switch. Got a quote for $2100 from my dentist over the phone and without looking at it he wanted to veneer it. With Delta Dental as my insurance I don't think it covers this. I have a dentist about an hour and a half away in north jersey I normally go to but he couldnt get me in until after Thanksgiving/December

Much appreciated

Dentist here: If it is truly 1/3 chipped, it may fall under medically necessary treatment and your insurance may pay for a crown, if you have crown coverage. Any bonding you do will really only be a patch until the next time you chip it again, which is very likely for large chips. Unless you crown the tooth, you pretty much can’t ever bite into anything hard without the risk of the large bonding breaking off again.

Hope things work out for you! If finances are a concern, try dental school clinics or dental residency clinics

Just got wisdom tooth removed by my dentist. Can i eat any food after its stopped bleeding?

Top Comment:

Absolutely not. You should stay on a strictly liquid diet for the first 48 hours then move to soft foods like applesauce and pudding and mashed potatoes. Stuff like that. After 2 weeks I’d say you can start eating thicker and heavier food just make sure you rinse the holes out with a syringe filled with salt water right after.

Dentist damaged other tooth during wisdom tooth extraction

Main Post:

So I had all my wisdoms taken out in June, but the bottom left one took a lot of drilling, prying and extra tools. During the struggle, one if the tools slipped and forcefully hit my other tooth. I've now developed pain after having some tooth shards come out, but the dentist won't even see me without an upfront payment. Is there a complaint process to follow instead of going into karen mode? They've "asked" for $280 upfront and told me it could cost an extra $800 to extract the tooth if it's too damaged 😐

Ps sorry if I used the wrong tag.

Who's TN started after dentist?

Main Post:

This seems like a common trait here yet my first dentist from ASPEN dental chain didn't know what it was I had tons of work. I'm seeing a new dentist now and she referred me to 2 specialist. I swear some of this pain is dental. It's so severe right now too :(😭. Almost feel like they drilled to much under my crowns and I have no enimal on the rest of the teeth.

Top Comment:

I honestly think mine started when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Sick note for tooth pain

Main Post:

I have been having severe toothache for the last two three days. I got a doctors appointment for tomorrow, but today morning, it got a bit worse. I had a headache too so I thought I will take the day off work. Now the pain is almost gone, I still have a slight pain when I move my cheeks. My employer has demanded a sick note but since my pain is almost gone, I dont see the point of seeing a dentist today to just get a sicknote. Is there any other way, or is a sicknote necessary?

Top Comment:

If your employer demands a sick note you have to provide it. See a dentist now, suddenly disappearing pain isn't a good sign. If you can't see a dentist today talk to your regular family doctor. Most of them will happily help in such a case. My doctor for example would likely provide a sicknote for today and tomorrow without actually having to go past the front desk if I explained this to her assistant, but your mileage may vary.
